The MovinCog Initiative

The MovinCog Initiative was born from the realisation that too few individuals and schools have access to the remediation programmes they need, due to financial costs or the lack of scientific evidence surrounding marketing claims. In response to this, the CBR are in the process of designing, testing and implementing a training programme based on robust scientific evidence that will be offered free of charge, to all schools and individuals who need it.

Here is our current timeline for the project:

January - September 2015:

  • Identification of the mechanisms and correlates of learning disorders, and of the potential for remediation through remotely delivered training regimens;

  • Mathematical modelling of the prevalent fallacies in the cognitive remediation literature, with a particular focus on flawed claims that mislead public opinion.

October 2015 - February 2016:

  • Programming and development of our training paradigm;

  • Testing of the components to be included in the training regimen;

  • Neuroimaging data collection (EEG, ERP);

  • Genetic profiling;

  • Experimental validation of the components of the programme;

  • Implementation of the HIT component in participating schools.

February - June 2016:

  • Implementation, adjustment and refinement of the remediation programme in participating schools and individuals;

  • Neuroimaging data collection (DTI, fMRI).

July - August 2016:

  • Preliminary data analyses (longitudinal);

  • Adjustments;

  • Software fixes and debugging.

September - December 2016:

  • Implementation of the refined programme in participating schools;

  • Data analyses (longitudinal).
